If youíre diagnosed with rosacea, your doctor will most likely prescribe a topical antibiotic gel or ointment. The treatment must be applied once or twice per day, as directed by your doctor, until symptoms improve. When untreated, patients can develop inflammatory rosacea, which causes small, pus-filled lesions to form on the face. In severe instances, patients can develop a condition known as rhinophyma, which causes swelling, redness, and excess tissue on the nose.
