About Rosacea

Rosacea is a common skin condition that typically affects adults over 30. It causes redness and swelling on the face and is particularly noticeable in the areas associated with blushing. Redness occurs when blood vessels in the face become dilated. Some patients also have bumps, lesions, and pimples that are similar to acne. Other symptoms include burning or soreness in the eye area.

Rosacea Treatment

If you’re diagnosed with rosacea, your doctor will most likely prescribe a topical antibiotic gel or ointment. The treatment must be applied once or twice per day, as directed by your doctor, until symptoms improve. When untreated, patients can develop inflammatory rosacea, which causes small, pus-filled lesions to form on the face. In severe instances, patients can develop a condition known as rhinophyma, which causes swelling, redness, and excess tissue on the nose.
