MetroGel Prescription Rosacea Treatment

MetroGel (metronidazole) is a topical antibiotic medication used to treat Rosacea in adults. More than 14 million Americans have rosacea symptoms, but many dont know how to treat the condition. MetroGel is the most popular topical treatment for Rosacea. When applied to the affected area, clinical trials have shown that MetroGel reduces the symptoms of Rosacea by fighting the bacteria that causes redness, swelling, and inflammation.

eDrugstore sells authentic, FDA-approved MetroGel manufactured in the United States by Galderma Laboratories.

About Rosacea

Rosacea is a common skin issue typically affecting adults over 30. It causes redness and swelling on the face and is particularly noticeable in the areas associated with blushing.

Redness occurs when blood vessels in the face become dilated. Some patients also have bumps, lesions, and pimples similar to acne. Other symptoms include burning or soreness in the eye area.

Most of those who suffer from this skin disorders symptoms may realize somethings wrong but are unaware they have Rosacea.

There is no cure for Rosacea, which tends to manifest itself in periodic flare-ups followed by periods of remission, during which the disorders characteristic blotches of redness, bumps, and pimples disappear. A common trigger for a rosacea flare-up is overexposure to the sun, which is lessened by using a high SPF sunscreen and wearing a hat.

Although Rosacea has no cure, studies show the skin disorder can minimize the intensity of flare-ups and avoid its potentially life-disruptive effects.

The first-line treatment of choice for Rosacea is a topical application of the antibiotic metronidazole, which is available in a topical gel marketed under the brand name MetroGel.

For those readers who have been diagnosed with Rosacea or suspect that they may be suffering from the disorder, here are the answers to some commonly asked questions about Rosacea and the use of MetroGel to treat it.

What are the Four Subtypes of Rosacea?

Here they are, but dont bother trying to pronounce them.

Erythematotelangiectatic Rosacea

The most common form of Rosacea. Known scientifically as erythematotelangiectatic Rosacea, characterized by facial redness and flushing. In some patients, small blood vessels may become visible.

Papulopustular Rosacea

known scientifically as papulopustular Rosacea, bumps, and pimples may be visible in addition to facial redness.

Phymatous Rosacea

Rosacea that is an enlargement of the nose caused by the buildup of excess tissue in known as Phymatous Rosacea.

Ocular Rosacea

When the skin disorder Rosacea spreads to the eyes it is called Ocular Rosacea, causing burning or stinging, as well as a bloodshot or watery appearance to the eyes.

Rosacea Treatment

If youre diagnosed with Rosacea, your doctor will most likely prescribe a topical antibiotic gel or ointment. The treatment must be applied once or twice daily, as directed by your doctor, until symptoms improve.

When untreated, patients can develop inflammatory Rosacea, which causes small, pus-filled facial lesions. In severe instances, patients can develop a condition known as rhinophyma, which causes swelling, redness, and excess tissue on the nose.

How does MetroGel work?

Rosacea is a type of adult acne that causes redness and inflammation of the skin. The antibiotic MetroGel combats the bacteria that causes the symptoms of Rosacea. Patients who use MetroGel say their skin is less red, less swollen, and has fewer pimples. Patients sometimes wait up to nine weeks to notice the effects.

Why Choose Metrogel?

MetroGel is an effective treatment for Rosacea that is well-tolerated among patients. It has been the most popular topical treatment for Rosacea for the past ten years. MetroGel is convenient because it only needs to be applied once daily. The unique pump delivery system dispenses a measured dose of medication that allows patients to consistently apply the proper amount of medicated gel to the affected area.

Directions for Using MetroGel

MetroGel is for external use only. Before applying the medication, wash your hands and face thoroughly, then wait 15 minutes. Use the pump to dispense the proper drug amount, then apply it to the affected area. Afterward, rewash your hands to remove the residue.

Let the medication absorb for 5 minutes before applying makeup. MetroGel may be used once or twice daily, depending on your doctors instructions. Only use this medication as prescribed by your doctor.

When applying MetroGel, avoid contact with your eye area, as the gel can irritate the eyes. If accidental contact occurs, thoroughly rinse your eyes and face with water. For best results, use MetroGel regularly for at least three weeks. If your condition does not improve, talk to your doctor. Sometimes, it can take up to 9 weeks to see results.

Side effects of MetroGel

Some patients may experience side effects when using MetroGel. Common side effects include skin irritation, a burning or stinging sensation, dryness, redness, nausea, headache, and a metallic taste in the mouth.

If you experience uncomfortable side effects or if your side effects are getting worse with time, consult your doctor to discuss your treatment options.

Rare but severe side effects include tingling in the hands or feet. If you notice any side effects, contact your doctor immediately. Most patients do not have serious side effects when using MetroGel.

Precautions when using MetroGel

Before using MetroGel, give your doctor a list of the medications, vitamins, and supplements youre currently taking. Be sure to notify your medical professional if youre using other topical treatments for acne or other skin conditions because these medications can interact with MetroGel. Women who are nursing should consult their physician before using MetroGel. Only use MetroGel as directed by your doctor.
