Cialis and Tadalafil Prices at CVS and Target

This month, CVS customers will pay exactly the same as last month, $60.28 for a 20 milligram pill of brand-name Cialis.

For those who only need 10 milligrams, splitting the tablet can take that cost down to $30.14 per dose. The price for the non-split, maintenance 5 milligram dose is $12.97 per pill.

Across all retailers, the average price of a Cialis 20 milligram tablet is currently $59.31. This price puts CVS as the low-cost leader among brick-and-mortar pharmacies this month.

Tadalafil Prices at CVS

Tadalafil is the generic version of Cialis and continues to offer major savings compared to the brand name.

Generic tadalafil price for 20 milligrams is exactly the same as last month at $2.59. The 10 milligram price per dose (using a pill splitter) also went down one cent to $1.29, and the cost of the 5 milligram tablet remains the same at $2.54.

Tadalafil at a 20 milligram dose averages $6.82 across all retailers we track, so CVS continues to offer the best brick-and-mortar price this month.

Cialis and Tadalafil: What To Know

Before taking any medication, you should know its functions, side effects, and risks. Here’s what to know about Cialis and generic tadalafil.

How Cialis Works

Cialis is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor. This class of medications works by keeping blood vessels open to allow blood to flow more freely through the body. For men, this means more blood flow to the penis, making it easier to get and maintain an erection.

Who Can Take Cialis

Cialis and tadalafil have been reviewed and approved by the Food and Drug Administration for men 18 and older with erectile dysfunction. Cialis hasn’t been studied extensively in any other group, so it isn’t recommended that anyone else take Cialis or tadalafil.

Cialis Side Effects

For men using Cialis or tadalafil, the most common side effects include headaches, nasal congestion, and facial flushing. This is because Cialis’s effect on the blood vessels works throughout the body, not just the penis.

Side effects can vary even between drugs with the same effect: Men who have problems with Viagra might experience fewer side effects when taking Cialis, for example.

There are two rare but serious side effects you need to be aware of: priapism, which is an erection that lasts four or more hours, and loss of vision. If you experience either of these, seek medical help right away.

Cialis can last in your system for up to 36 hours, but you should not be achieving erections without sexual stimulation.

Cialis Drug Interactions

Like any drug, Cialis can interact with other medications you take, including over-the-counter (OTC) products and herbal supplements. Of particular concern are drugs that impact blood pressure or affect liver enzymes, which can slow down or speed up your body’s natural metabolization of Cialis.

Before you start taking Cialis, review every medication you’re taking, both prescription and not, with your doctor. Users of nitrates should take particular care as there’s a serious risk of a sudden and dangerous drop in blood pressure.

Cialis vs. Tadalafil: What’s the Difference?

Cialis is a brand name of a medication with tadalafil as the active ingredient, approved by the FDA in 2003 and available in generic form as of 2018.

While the active ingredient, its dosage, and its effects are the same as the brand-name drug, generic tadalafil might have different inert ingredients, like dyes or fillers.

Pros and Cons of Choosing Tadalafil (Generic Cialis)

Pros

Price. Like any product, with the generic version, you pay for the product, not the marketing. Since the active ingredients are the same, if you’re on a budget, generics are the best choice.

Cons

Brand loyalty. If you’re only comfortable with a certain brand, it might make more sense for you to pay for Cialis, especially if you’ve had trouble with generic medication in the past.

Allergy Considerations

While allergies to inert ingredients are rare, they can happen. If you’re experiencing an issue with one formulation, try another and see if that changes the effects.

Cialis Not Right for You? We Carry Alternatives!

Cialis and tadalafil aren’t your only options for treating ED.

Other medication options include:

  • Viagra. The original ED medication, Viagra is available in two dosages.
  • Sildenafil. Sildenafil is the active ingredient in Viagra; it’s available as a generic.
  • Vardenafil. Sold under the brand name Levitra until recently, vardenafil is the most fast-acting PDE5 inhibitor.
  • Stendra. Newer to the market, Stendra can take effect in 15 to 30 minutes and can last up to 6 hours.
