Erection issues is a common condition in older men, but doctors say younger men are now asking for performance enhancing drugs like Viagra to produce stronger erections during sex. Most Viagra users today, according to Pfizer, are in their early to mid 50s. But how young is too young to take Viagra?

Younger Men Seeking Stronger Erections

Urologist Myron Murdock, medical director of the Impotence Institute of America, says young men are likely to use Viagra because sexual performance is a high priority for them.

A younger man, Murdock says, “wants his V-12 Jaguar working just perfectly,” whereas an elderly gent may be content with less dependable erections. What’s more, the sexual partners of younger men “are more demanding of their performance,” Murdock told WebMD.

Some doctors won’t prescribe Viagra for young men, while others are willing to prescribe pharmaceuticals that can help.

Erection Problem, or No Erection Problem?

Some doctors believe lifestyle medications like Viagra have become so commonplace that young men believe they should be taking the medication for the slightest hiccup in their sex lives.

Dr. Robert Garafolo, director of youth services at the Howard Brown Health Center in Chicago says young men in their late teens and early 20s come into his office and tell him tales of a struggling sex life and create fake symptoms they believe are associated with Erection Difficulties.

While Garafolo says “no” to these young drug seekers, he realizes many of them can get their hands on the little blue pills elsewhere.  In fact Garafolo believes Viagra has become a party drug. He says young men believe Viagra will help their game with the ladies, and cautions doctors about this trend.

Seeking medical advice

While debate about age will continue, it’s important for men of all ages to see their doctor when a problem arises. Only a trained medical professional can diagnose the problem and provide possible treatments.
