Viagra gum?

Wrigley’s, the maker’s of Big Red and Juicy Fruit, are taking on a whole new product line.  They’re exploring the idea of Viagra gum.  The company applied for a patent to develop the gum, which would be taken about thirty minutes before sex.  After about two minutes of chewing the drug should start working, which is faster than taking the pill.  No word yet on if the gum will be blue.

Doctors say it’s not a stretch to turn the popular drug into a chewy sensation, after all nicotine gum has been successful.  Plus, doctors say this kind of product could appeal to a whole new demographic, like those who have trouble swallowing pills.  Doctors also think gum may help those who experience nausea while Viagra.

Wrigley’s could only start to market the gum after Viagra’s patent runs out next year.  After that the door is open for other generic drugs to hit shelves, but Wrigley’s won’t say how far along they are in the development process.  “We file dozens of patents every year with interesting or intriguing concepts,” Christopher Perille, a Wrigley spokesman, said. “But there’s a huge difference between filing for a patent and actually developing a product, and finding one that’s exactly right for commercialization.”

Other’s have tried
Believe it or not, Wrigley’s isn’t the only company that is trying to corner the market on sexual gum.  A Florida based company has already rolled out, ‘Sexlets’ an herbal gum that claims to enhance a man’s libido.  A spin off name from Chiclets, the gum claims to use natural ingredients to get blood pumping and enhance sex.  The 15 piece pack of gum sells for about $12.  The company suggests men chew at least three pieces a day, and claim they are producing millions of pieces of their new product to keep up with demand.  There is no prescription for this gum, and it is not FDA approved.
