Stendra’s prices at CVS, Walgreens, and Walmart during the second half of 2019 were a bit volatile at the start and at the end but stable in the period in between. Walmart’s price for the drug was the lowest of the three at year’s end.
Stendra’s prices at America’s three biggest prescription drug retailers exhibited some volatility at the beginning and the end of 2019’s second half. However, prices for the drug at CVS, Walgreens, and Walmart were remarkably stable from August through November.
Prized for its rapid onset of effect and relatively mild side effects, Stendra was the last of the currently available erectile dysfunction drugs to make its debut. It was introduced in 2012 and does not yet have generic competition and probably won’t for a couple of more years at least.
Active Ingredient Is Avanafil
Sold in tablets of 50, 100, and 200 mg, Stendra’s active ingredient is avanafil. The recommended starting dose is 100 mg, which clinical tests have shown delivers the desired results for the majority of men taking the drug.
Stendra usually takes effect within 30 minutes, and many men report that it works for them within 15 minutes. Its erection-friendly effects last for up to six hours, which is better than either Viagra or Levitra, which last for four and five hours, respectively.
Side Effects Generally Mild
Although generally mild, Stendra’s side effects can include back pain, cold symptoms, flushing, and headache. The drug can also cause more serious side effects such as a sharp reduction or total loss of hearing or vision and an erection that persists for four hours or more. While rare, such side effects constitute a genuine emergency, and you should seek immediate medical attention.
As is true with the other oral ED drugs known as PDE5 inhibitors, Stendra should never be taken concurrently with nitrate-based drugs. Taking these medications together could trigger a life-threatening drop in blood pressure.
Stendra Prices at CVS
Stendra’s price at CVS began the second half of 2019 at $73.27 per 100 mg tablet in July. That price fell just over 7 percent to $68.10 in August and remained at that level through November. In December, CVS’s price for Stendra climbed to $71.41, an increase of 4.9 percent.
Stendra Prices at Walgreens
The July price for Stendra at Walgreens was $70.58. It dropped 3.5 percent in August to $68.12 and stayed there through November. The pharmacy chain’s price for Stendra climbed 4.9 percent to $71.43 in December.
Stendra Prices at Walmart
Stendra’s price at Walmart began the second half of 2019 at $73.52, the highest price for the medication among the top three retailers. In August, the price fell 10.1 percent to $66.08 and remained at that level through November. The price for Stendra climbed 4.9 percent in December to $69.29. Despite that end-of-the-year price hike, Walmart’s price for Stendra was the lowest among the top three retailers at year’s end.
