The average prices for Levitra and its generic equivalent in October were up only slightly from September. However, the changes from July were far more dramatic.
Levitra was second only to Viagra to reach the U.S. market for erectile dysfunction drugs. It debuted in 2003, five years after Pfizer’s little blue pill made its bow and revolutionized the treatment of male impotence.
Vardenafil hydrochloride is both the active ingredient in Levitra and the name under which Levitra’s generic equivalent is marketed. Vardenafil, as a generic alternative to Levitra, was introduced in November 2018.

In terms of both onset and duration of action, Levitra and vardenafil are quite similar to Viagra and sildenafil. Both of these brand-name/generic drug combinations tend to take effect 30 to 60 minutes after they’re taken. However, the effects of Levitra/vardenafil can last for four to six hours, slightly longer than the average of four to five hours for Viagra/sildenafil.
The average October 2019 prices of Viagra and sildenafil were $77.05 and $24.89, respectively, for a 100-milligram tablet, the highest-strength tablet available. This was considerably higher than the comparable prices of Levitra and vardenafil at $56.98 and $21.21, respectively.
Pill Splitting Is Popular
The recommended starting dose for Levitra and vardenafil is 10 milligrams, half the size of the 20-milligram tablet for which we’ve quoted prices.
