Meet Expert Plastic Surgeon: Dr. Mitchell Grasseschi
1. What inspired you to become involved in plastic surgery?
My heart and passion. Plastic surgery is the most basic surgery. You are presented with a challenge or a problem and it’s up to me to find the best techniques to resolve the problem. Plastic surgery is an art and entails creativity. I can potentially repair the body and put things back the way they were.
2. What is your primary goal when working with a patient?
My goal is to make my patient happy and promote growth within my patient. In addition, to be on the same page as my patient and to see eye to eye for the final result – what are THEY looking for. If we can’t agree on a realistic expectation, I will graciously decline the opportunity to work on them as their surgeon.
3. Who has been your mentor as a plastic surgeon?
My mentor was my Chief at Northwestern Hospital, Harold B. Griffith. He successfully practiced in all areas of surgery; pediatric, plastics and more…he had no restrictions. I have been in practice over 33 years and haven’t met anyone like him.
4. What are some myths about plastic surgery you’d like to clear up?
One big myth that I hear is that “you can lose weight with liposuction.” This is false. Liposuction only removes the storage area of fat. If a patient continues to lead an unhealthy lifestyle of eating poorly and a lack of exercise, the fat will come back. My goal is to make my patients happy and to help them grow as a person.
5. Tell me about the latest innovations when it comes to cosmetic surgery, tattoo removal, and vein surgery.
Latest innovations: I perform many pediatric cleft palates, rhinoplasty’s and facelifts. There is now a dissolvable plate for rhinoplasty that holds cartilage together; PDS suture. This is a long-lasting dissolvable suture.
My colleagues at Ritacca Laser & Cosmetic now use Artefill, which is a permanent filler. In tattoo removal, there are now inks available where they can easily be removed if tattoo removal is wanted down the road.
6. What advice would you give to someone interested in one of the services you provide at Ritacca Laser Center?
I encourage anyone debating cosmetic surgery to call myself or Ritacca Laser & Cosmetic Surgery Center for a consultation for a one-on-one consultation.
