So-called sexual enhancement supplements often contain unlisted ingredients that can potentially be hazardous to the health of those using the products. The Food and Drug Administration is hard-pressed to stay on top of all such supplements coming to the market.

It’s been an entirely different game since prescription medications like Viagra, Levitra, and Cialis were developed to treat erection problems.

Before then, erectile dysfunction was largely misunderstood and misattributed to psychological issues when in fact it is almost always a case of insufficient blood flow to the penis.

But just because a sound, medical approach to treatment of erection problems has been demonstrated as effective over and over doesn’t mean that it’s easy for people to talk about. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to pick up a medication for erectile dysfunction over the counter at your local retailer, or better yet, order it online and have it sent right to you?

Plenty of scam artists recognize this, and they’re happy to oblige. You have probably seen “supplements” and “100% Natural” products in convenience stores and online that claim to treat erection problems. It’s a lot easier to buy these products cloaked in the anonymity of the internet, or from the clerk who won’t remember you from the hundreds of other people he rings up in a day.

What’s more, going to the doctor can be expensive. And with prescription drugs costing a pretty penny, why not try the readily available supplements and see what happens?

What Is Super Panther 7K?

According to one of the websites selling Super Panther 7K, it is a “genuine boosting supplement.” Furthermore, each pill contains 1,000 milligrams – of what, it doesn’t say. But it promises to be “stronger and more efficient” and to not only produce raging erections but also stop premature ejaculation and increase penis size. It basically promises everything a man might wish for.

As for ingredients, the product says it contains guarana, a tropical plant that offers energy and stamina; yohimbe, an herbal product purported to increase blood flow; L-arginine, which is supposed to have vasodilating effects; and other herbs and vitamins.

It claims to be all natural, and not to promote headaches. (Headaches are one of the most common side effects of prescription erectile dysfunction medications.) And at the “sale price” of about $5 per pill, it’s clearly a big financial savings over a prescription medication. It sounds too good to be true, no?

Why the FDA Took Action

In June of 2017, the FDA issued an alert, warning consumers not to purchase or use Super Panther 7K. Why did it do it?

Well, in addition to all those “natural” ingredients, the FDA found that the product also contained both sildenafil and tadalafil, which are the active ingredients in Viagra and Cialis.

Selling products for consumption and not declaring the true ingredients is a big “no-no,” and when those undeclared ingredients happen to be contained in prescription medications, the FDA is definitely going to act swiftly. Sildenafil and tadalafil require a prescription for a reason, and even if they didn’t, a company couldn’t get away with including them but not listing them as ingredients.

Risks of Undeclared Ingredients

Sildenafil is sometimes included in supplements as an unlisted ingredient.

Men who take products like Super Panther 7K run several risks. Most importantly, not all men can safely take sildenafil or tadalafil, prescription or not. Men who take nitrates for heart disease, for example, are not prescribed Viagra or other drugs in its class, because the combination can cause a sudden, severe drop in blood pressure. The result can be fainting, or worse.

Suppose a man has been cleared to take Viagra or one of its competitors and in fact has some in his medicine cabinet. Maybe he wants to take a “supplement” in hopes of boosting sexual performance further.

It’s a sure way to inadvertently take too much sildenafil or tadalafil and end up with a complication like priapism, which is not only painful but is generally considered a medical emergency.

Finally, with undeclared ingredients, there’s no way other than careful laboratory testing to find out exactly how much of an ingredient a product contains.

The manufacturing conditions of many products sold as supplements online or in stores may not be even remotely uniform or consistent, so even if one batch were found to have negligible amounts of an ingredient, that’s no guarantee of how much would be found in another batch.

In other words, it’s like medical Russian roulette.

Not the First FDA Crackdown

Lest you think that the FDA simply has it in for this particular product, you should know that this is hardly the first time that the FDA has cracked down on over-the-counter products claiming to treat erectile dysfunction.

In addition to issuing several warning letters about “all natural” and other over-the-counter products that claim to treat erection problems, the FDA has worked with law enforcement entities throughout the world to shut down the factories that produce counterfeit drugs.

And with Viagra being one of the most counterfeited drugs in the world, they have their work cut out for them. The problem is, as fast as the FDA cracks down on one product, two more pop up in its place.

Opt for Healthier Lifestyle

Suppose you want to have better erections but don’t think you really qualify as having erectile dysfunction. Nonetheless, you would like to improve your erectile health without enlisting medical help just yet. It turns out there is quite a bit you can do on your own. It’s simple but not necessarily easy.

You know all those things that “they” say you should do to be healthier, like eating a balanced diet, curbing alcohol use, exercising, and giving up cigarettes? All of those positive actions lead to better erectile health because they all improve the health of your heart and arteries. And healthier arteries means healthier erections.

A healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise, can help keep ED symptoms at bay.

But if you make the effort to improve your general health and fitness and still don’t think your erections are all they could be, then why not talk to your doctor? Maybe you’re not comfortable bringing up the topic of erection health with a doctor, but your doctor sees far more sensitive health issues on a daily basis.

Plus, if you are younger, say under 40, your doctor may want to perform certain tests to see if your cardiovascular system is healthy. In fact, many doctors consider erection problems to be analogous to the “canary in the coal mine,” sometimes indicating cardiovascular issues before they produce obvious symptoms. And the sooner you treat them, the healthier your heart.

In summary, the best possible way to improve the quality of your erections is to do what you can to live a healthy lifestyle, and to work with a doctor on possible treatments. That way you won’t waste your time and money on worthless or dangerous supplements.

Is It Too Good to Be True?

This isn’t your first rodeo, and you’re smart enough to know that things that seem too good to be true often are exactly that. With products claiming to treat erection problems, a scam artist’s dishonesty can end up hurting more than just your wallet.

When products contain undisclosed ingredients in unknown quantities, the dangers are very real and potentially very serious. Leave those products on the shelf and focus your attention and resources on proven ways to treat erectile dysfunction. You have more options today than ever before!
