While many men have praised Viagra for its effectiveness, a new study looks deeper into the perks of the little blue pill for black men.
It’s the first time a study, specifically focusing on black men, has been done. About 250 patients were randomly selected for the study. Some of the men took Viagra, others took a placebo. At the end of the study 81% of men said their sex lives were improved by Viagra compared to about 30% of those taking the placebo.
“Cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure and diabetes are all highly prevalent among black men. Because erection difficulties are often associated with such conditions, it is especially important to screen and treat black men who are experiencing erection problems,” said Jean Bonhomme, M.D., Founder, National Black Men’s Health Network. “We have now confirmed that Viagra is an effective and well tolerated treatment option for these men.”
At least 24% of black men polled say they do struggle with erection issues compared to 22 percent of white men and 20 percent of Hispanic men respectively.
“We need to be more proactive in studying and screening for loss of erection issues as cultural influences make some of these men reluctant to seek treatment and/or limit their access to appropriate care,” added Bonhomme. “The renewed interest in loss of erection that was prompted by the introduction of Viagra has likely given physicians the opportunity to diagnose and treat the diseases associated with poor erections which otherwise may not have been identified.”
Discovered and developed by Pfizer, Viagra is an oral treatment for erection issues has been found to be effective in more than 100 clinical studies. Viagra has been approved by authorities in 118 countries around the world and is among the most widely prescribed medications, with over 100 million prescriptions written for more than 16 million men.
