A Brownsville, Texas man has been indicted on eight counts of selling fake Viagra and other fake erectile dysfunction pills on Facebook and Craigslist over the past five years.
The Cost of Selling Fake Viagra
The man, Rene Soriano, is said to have been working with suppliers of fake Viagra in Singapore and India to sell more than $112,000 worth of the counterfeit erectile drugs. According to the indictment: “It was the object of the conspiracy to smuggle counterfeit, unapproved and misbranded prescription drugs from India and Singapore to sell and deliver the drug to customers in the United States.”
The fake Viagra that Soriano received was sent from Chinmay Overseas. It’s not the first time that the Food and Drug Administration has seized non-approved medications from Chimnay Overseas.
Other counts on the indictment include:
- Introducing misbranded drugs without adequate directions for use into interstate commerce
- Engaging in wholesale distribution of prescription drugs without being licensed by the State of Texas
- Knowingly and intentionally trafficking in counterfeit pharmaceuticals
- Fraudulently importing, selling and transporting misbranded drugs from India contrary to federal law
