Viagra
Always ensure your Viagra is the real FDA approved medication.

You can’t judge a book by it cover, or sadly, a medication by its appearance or label. Today counterfeit forms of many types of sought-after prescriptive drugs are something patients must be aware of and try to avoid to protect their health.

Depending on where you buy your medication, if could be an impostor. Thankfully, there is new technology being introduced that can identify these dangerous fake medications.

A prime example of this problem is the increase of fake Viagra and even the so-called “generic” Viagra that has flooded the open market, which try to mimic the drug prescribed by doctors for erectile dysfunction.

Many men, often those who want to avoid visits to their doctor’s office that they fear would be embarrassing, fall victim to these fake medications because they buy their medication from less-than-reputable suppliers, rather than FDA approved pharmacies. The online marketplace is flooded with them and it is buyer beware.

Detecting Counterfeit Drugs

There are some proven methods for detecting counterfeit drugs, ranging from basic examinations to advanced high-tech devices that help identify counterfeit pills and protect consumers.

For example, in the United States, the FDA has developed a handheld device called Counterfeit Detection Device No. 3 (CD3). This scanner, which has been used since 2012, works by projecting 10 wavelengths of light across the actual medications and boxes containing them. The light from the device makes counterfeit products appear a different color than genuine products.

The one drawback is that the scanner does not have the ability to determine precisely what is really in the product, but it does identify counterfeit medications from the real thing.

New Technology Better Identifies Fake Medications

The University of Montreal’s Department of Chemistry recently created a new detector which can identify and determine the quantities of the compounds within pharmaceutical drugs, and does so much more quickly than the detectors that have been used for the last four years.

The device, created by Scientists Philippe Lebel, Alexandra Furtos, and Karen Waldron of the University, uses principles of liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), which essentially merges the physical separation of compounds using liquid chromatography with specialized analysis capabilities of mass spectrometry. The scientists developed this analytical device with capabilities to detect 80 substances that are often substituted for the active ingredients in the drugs Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra.

Their invention has been tested on several pharmaceutical products as was even used to test medications that were seized at the Canadian border. These trial runs of the new technology proved it to be able to identify a product’s active ingredient and even its non-targeted compounds, including new synthetic analogs of the active ingredient.

This latest breakthrough in detection was as accurate as that of existing technologies, but it worked much faster, taking only one-fifth as much time for results. Plus, it identifies those unknown compounds that were not identified in products using the old detection methods.

What is the danger?

While prescription drugs must undergo years of testing and their production is overseen by FDA standards of quality and safety, the world of counterfeit, and even those so-called herbal supplements, is virtually unregulated and offers formulations of ingredients that may not only have no proven benefit to the patient, but could actually be dangerous to their health or threaten their life.

Essentially, a patient can be exposed to some very real dangers when taking unregulated counterfeit Viagra, ranging from unknown ingredients that do nothing for their condition to drug cocktails of unknown, unregulated, and unproven ingredients and herbal concoctions that have unknown reactions when taken with other medications.

With a genuine prescription of Viagra, high-quality standards and the quantities of ingredients used are strictly regulated. But, since counterfeit Viagra and even the so-called herbal supplements are manufactured in foreign countries, experts say they typically lack any oversight in production. The buyer therefore cannot be certain exactly what ingredient, and how much of that ingredient, there is in these products.

This can make for a dangerous concoction. The FDA has been issuing warnings that actually date back as far back as two years ago, but fake Viagra pills and so-called “generic” forms (which do not really exist) are still being sold everywhere, from websites, to gas stations, to bodegas in the Bronx, and Nevada brothels.

Essentially, the websites that sell them come and go, vanishing as soon as complaints or too many questions come in. They shut down operation only to rename/rebrand themselves and set up shop again selling the same product.

Why Does Speed in Detection Matter?

The faster fake products can be identified, the safer for consumers. Why? Because of the huge numbers of fake drugs that cross international borders every day. With this increased speed in detection, more products can be tested, and more counterfeits can be seized before they reach the hands of consumers who could be harmed, or at least highly disappointed, by their purchase.

According to a report, Health Canada has already incorporated the University of Montreal’s new detection technology into its counterfeit monitoring procedures, and experts believe it could become a model for other countries in the fight against counterfeit drugs.

Real Viagra and Avoiding Counterfeit Medication
So how do you insure you are avoiding counterfeit Viagra (or any other counterfeit drug) and getting the real-deal? You can guarantee your medication is real by only purchasing your prescriptions from providers with safeguards and protections in place to ensure that what you receive is the genuine product.

So, once you have a prescription, look out for illegitimate pharmacies that sell counterfeit Viagra for extremely low prices. Often, these pharmacies will call counterfeit pills “generic” Viagra. It’s important to know that the FDA has not yet approved a generic version of Viagra. Counterfeit pills are manufactured in foreign countries where the manufacturing and quality standards are lax. The pills can be ineffective or even dangerous to your health.

And don’t allow your need for privacy to make you vulnerable to counterfeit medication. One of the reasons some people end up buying counterfeit Viagra is that they can purchase it discretely, online, and avoid the pharmacy counter, but there are other solutions that insure genuine product and privacy.

You can either order Viagra through your local pharmacy or you can order online through a reputable online store, where your privacy is protected and the order is delivered discretely. Authentic FDA-approved Viagra, manufactured by Pfizer, can be purchased through trusted online pharmacies like eDrugstore.com, offering the benefits of convenience and avoiding that special trip to your pharmacy to pick it up.

What should you look for when ordering online?

You should always be careful to make certain that the company you are ordering from is reputable:

  • Does the website show a physical address?
  • Is there a contact phone number for questions and for physicians to use for communication?
  • They should ask for much more information than just the name of the medication and how you will choose to pay for it. Did they ask you to fill out a personal history?
  • They should ask you to fill out a medical history questionnaire
  • They should require that your provide information about your physician and treatment plans.
  • Your online pharmacy should always be available during business hours to answer your questions and communicate as needed.

Is Real Viagra Safe?

Taking FDA approved Viagra is a safe and effective way that many men treat erectile dysfunction. It fact it has proven to help about 80 percent of those patients prescribed. Trusted, it has been around since 1998 and it was the first medication of its kind.

Viagra’s safety and effectiveness is well documented and since it is a proven treatment for male impotence, most health insurance plans will cover Viagra, which makes the medication more affordable. Not everyone can take Viagra, only your doctor and you can decide if it is right for you.

The side effects of Viagra are generally mild and in many cases may disappear completely as you continue to use the drug. The most common side effects of the drug are back and muscle pain, dizziness, flushing, headache, indigestion, nausea, rash, and runny or stuffy nose.

The Take-Away Advice

Best advice is to always purchase your medications from a licensed, FDA approved pharmacy, whether in person on online. Seek the advice of your physician and choose a reputable online pharmacy for male impotence medication, not a fly-by-night website.
