One-off Test for Prostate Cancer Doesn’t Save Lives.

New research out of the Universities of Bristol and Oxford may serve as a warning to doctors and patients.

The findings indicate that doing a one-off PSA test for prostate cancer is ineffective in saving lives.

Anxiety, infection, erectile dysfunction and incontinence

Results from the largest-ever prostate cancer trial point to the idea that although testing men with no prostate cancer symptoms won’t hurt them, it may miss some of the more aggressive and lethal prostate cancers.

The study, which was published in the Journal of American the Medical Association, looked at two groups of men between ages 50 and 69.

In the first group, which had 189,386 men, the men underwent screening for prostate cancer. After 10 years, there were 8,054 men in the group (4.3%), that were found to have prostate cancer.

In the control group, 219,439 men were not invited to get the screening for prostate cancer. After 10 years, 7,853 men had prostate cancer (3.6%).

One-off Test for Prostate Screening Results

In addition to missing the more lethal and aggressive forms of prostate cancer, the one-off PSA test can cause men to worry and seek treatment for a “light” cancer that might otherwise not have caused them harm.

This can cause a lot of anxiety, and the risk of infection, erectile dysfunction and incontinence can go up after treatment.

Prostate cancer and erectile dysfunction

Although prostate cancer alone doesn’t typically cause erectile dysfunction, the treatment often does.

Men who undergo surgery, radiation or chemotherapy and then suffer from erectile dysfunction may benefit from taking Viagra. Viagra is one of the top erectile dysfunction drugs and can only be obtained by prescription.

Be careful not to purchase supplements and other pills claiming to treat erectile dysfunction without a prescription.

Viagra is an FDA-approved erectile dysfunction drug, so you know you’re getting pure and effective ingredients. Anything you buy from your local convenience store is going to be nothing more than a supplement making false promises.
