Meat-eaters Have More Sex … and More Erectile Dysfunction
If you love a good steak, pork chop or rib, there’s good news and bad news.

More meat, more sex

According to a survey by GourmetMeatClub.co.uk, 42% of men who ate meat had sex at least once a week, while only 16% of their vegetarian and “reluctant carnivores” (defined as people who only ate meat about once every two weeks) had sex once a week or more.

The survey included 2,000 Brits, and the highest percentages went to Wales (49%), England (46%) and Scotland (40%).

More meat, more erectile dysfunction

While the quantity of sex may send you running for a pack of bologna, it’s important to note that there’s a sex-related downside to eating so much meat.

Diets high in saturated fat and meat are linked to heart disease, which is significantly linked to erectile dysfunction. In fact, erectile dysfunction is actually considered a red flag for silent early cardiovascular disease, which is the leading cause of death around the globe.

Treating erectile dysfunction in men with cardiovascular disease

Even for men with heart disease, erectile dysfunction doesn’t have to be a roadblock to having sex.

According to an article on Harvard Medical School’s Harvard Health Publishing website, erectile dysfunction pills, including Viagra, Cialis and Levitra, are very safe for men without heart disease.

But for men with heart disease, it’s vital that they talk to their doctor about all their medications. Men who take certain pills, such as nitrates, can see dangerous drops in blood pressure if they take them while taking erectile dysfunction drugs.

In addition, men taking erythromycin, certain antifungal or anti-HIV medications should use only low-dose PDE-5 inhibitors. (Viagra, Cialis and Levitra are all PDE-5 inhibitors, which cause vasodilation in the penis.)

Regardless of your health you’ll need to consult a physician to get Viagra, Cialis or Levitra, as these erectile dysfunction drugs require a prescription. Just be sure to inform your physician of any and all health concerns, including current medications.
