Health official step in when ED medicaiton, Levitra, is found in energy drink.
Health official step in when ED medicaiton, Levitra, is found in energy drink.
An energy drink, MosKa, was pulled off the shelves in Australia because the beverage contained a prescription drug known to treat erectile dysfunction.

The banned beverage

Promotions for the beverage caught the attention of health officials when it claimed to boost sexual performance. When officials tested the drink, Levitra, a common medication to treat impotence, was found.

The hazards

Levitra, even if diluted in liquid, can cause problems for men with  heart medications. Without knowing it, a guy could buy the drink and end up with serious complications.

MosKa’s makers claimed a third party put the drug in the drink. The company offered an apology in a press release:

“We are devastated to have found that the overseas OEM supplier for MosKa energy for adults had included an undeclared ingredient, Vardenafil (Levitra), within the natural ingredients. Vardenafil (Levitra) is a prescription only substance.”

“As such, we have terminated the supplier and in the process of producing the product with our own formulation to ensure no hidden ingredients. All our future products will be tested for compliance with all regulatory requirements.”

The product was removed from store shelves.

A domestic problem too

An energy drink isn't the answer to your ED. Talk to a doctor to find a real solution.
An energy drink isn’t the answer to your ED. Talk to a doctor to find a real solution.

Australia isn’t the only country dealing with this issue. At the beginning of the year, six sexually enhancing supplements were recalled because health officials found Viagra in the “all natural” pills. One of the supplements, Sexy Monkey, reached dozens of stores in 12 states before the FDA stepped in. Like the maker’s of MosKa, the maker’s of this supplement recalled the product.

The FDA is trying to crack down on supplements that claim to enhance your bedroom performance, but supplements don’t have to go through the same rigorous testing as a prescription medication does. That’s why the FDA usually catches the problem after the fact.

If you’re dealing with sexual problems, talking with a doctor is your best course of action.
