If you search for generic sildenafil on the internet, you’ll sooner or later come across Kamagra oral jelly or pills. What you won’t find is what Kamagra is, what its possible side effects are, or that there are smarter alternatives. What is Kamagra?
Kamagra is a medication that’s unlicensed in the U.S. and made for the Indian market by Ajanta Pharma. It’s available in both 100mg pills and a gel form called Kamagra Oral Jelly. Kamagra contains sildenafil citrate, the active ingredient in Viagra. As the FDA doesn’t allow Kamagra to be imported as of 2009, it’s sold on the black market or purchased from Indian companies directly, usually with no verification of a prescription.
Is Kamagra Legal?
Kamagra hasn’t undergone any sort of FDA process that we can find, so it’s not legal to be imported or sold in the U.S. as of this writing. That may change, as Ajanta is working to enter the U.S. generics market, but for now, it’s not available from reputable brick-and-mortar or online pharmacies in the U.S.
Kamagra Vs. Viagra: How Do They Compare?
While Kamagra is often compared to Viagra, there are some very real differences between the two, including:
- FDA approval. Because it’s made overseas, Kamagra is outside the FDA’s jurisdiction. Viagra has been on the market with FDA approval and safety monitoring for decades, with the results of trials and post-marketing study freely available on the FDA website.
- Quality control. Because Viagra and generic sildenafil are made for the U.S. market, ingredients and quality are strictly enforced with penalties and legal liability for failures. Any black market medication is sold on a “let-the-buyer-beware” basis.

Is Kamagra Safe?
The dangers of Kamagra boil down to two very simple facts: You don’t know what you’re getting, and there’s no doctor involved.
Here are just a few of the risks of taking Kamagra:
- Fraud. Counterfeit drugs are commonplace and may contain too low a dose, too high a dose, no active ingredient at all, or be contaminated. There’s no way to know for sure what you’re getting. And if that weren’t enough, because it’s not legally available in the U.S., when you buy a black-market product, you are giving your credit card information to criminals.
