Male impotence
It’s not unusual to have difficulty getting an erection if you’ve had too much to drink.

For most men, the initial reaction to an occasional inability to get and keep an erection is to think the worst. In their minds, they fear that they now face a lifetime fight against erectile dysfunction. However, most often that is not really the case.

Rare indeed is the man who doesn’t find it difficult, if not impossible, to get an erection every now and then. The causes of such problems can range from a bit too much to drink to fatigue and an inability to cope with the stress of the day.

These temporary incidents are usually nothing to worry about provided, of course, that they don’t persist and morph into a regular pattern of impotence. Here, in no particular order, are some causes of occasional erection problems that should not be interpreted as anything more serious than that.

  • You’ve had too much to drink and simply can’t get it up. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends no more than two drinks. If you’ve exceeded that, your erection problem is probably just a temporary episode and nothing more. Drink less in the future.
  • You’re with a new partner and are anxious about how well you’re performing. This type of performance anxiety very often leads to failure. Resolve to relax and enjoy things in the future.
  • The stress of a hard day at work has left you unable to achieve and sustain an erection as you normally would. Try not to let the stress get to you next time.
  • Unresolved problems with your partner make it difficult to get it on, in which case it’s probably best to postpone sex until you two have worked the problems out.
