Energy Drink Illegal in Australia for Causing Extreme Erections
An energy drink called MosKa was banned in Australia after authorities discovered it contained Levitra, a drug used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED).

Dangerous side effects

The beverage was being marketed as a “natural” herbal drink that enhanced sexual performance. Although MosKa did what it promised, it had the potential to cause serious side effects, including sudden hearing loss and priapism. Priapism is a persistent erection that can cause permanent damage due to how long it lasts.

The energy drink was especially dangerous for men with heart conditions who didn’t know they would be consuming Levitra. Levitra can cause very serious cardiovascular side effects.

The Levitra website includes warnings about the potential for the drug to cause sudden drops in blood pressure when taken with other medications. It continues, “With a sudden drop in blood pressure, you could get dizzy, faint or have a heart attack or stroke.”

Unlike the MosKa label, men can find information on drug interactions with Levitra on the product’s website. They include warnings for men taking nitrates, riociguat and poppers.

Retooling the recipe

The company behind MosKa released a statement saying that it was unaware that Levitra was present in the drink because the beverage was produced by an external supplier. MosKa officials also said they ended their relationship with the supplier and would start producing the product with their own formulation to ensure there were no undeclared ingredients.

Sadly, it’s not uncommon for so-called “natural” ED products, such as gum, supplements or beverages, to contain drugs that can be considered dangerous, especially in terms of nondisclosure on the label.

If you suffer from impotence, don’t rely on convenience-store ED concoctions to help you get an erection. Talk to your doctor about getting a prescription for a legal ED drug, such as Viagra, Levitra or Cialis. Just be sure to disclose any and all medications you’re taking to ensure you’re choosing the best ED drug for your situation.
