A penis ring that’s not a ring and that works as well as Viagra for ED? That’s what Giddy, the producer of the Eddie device, claims. What’s all the hype about? Can a “cock” ring really replace Viagra? We browsed through user reviews to help you decide on the best option.

A Penis Ring That’s Not a Ring

Reinventing the wheel is not a small feat, and that’s what the designers of the new erectile device, Eddie, took on as a challenge. Traditional penis rings are just that, ring-shaped products that constrict blood flow and help men keep an erection longer.

Makers of Eddie make a point that the penis in cross-section is not a perfect wheel; it’s more like an oval. So, they constructed something that resembles more of a horseshoe than a hula hoop. The design is supposed to give you a comfortable-feeling erection and more satisfying ejaculations.

Mainstream penis rings work by putting pressure on the veins and arteries, while at the same time squeezing your urethra (the canal through which urine and semen pass). Eddie hugs the base of your penis in all the right places, allowing unrestricted blood flow in the arteries.

Eddie is an FDA-registered class II medical device. Be aware that “registered” is not the same as “approved” in FDA terms.

Which One Works Better, Eddie or Viagra?

Unlike Viagra, which has been the subject of many studies throughout the years, there is currently no research on the effectiveness of Eddie for erectile dysfunction, so we can only rely on user reviews.

And those are mixed, to say the least. On two of the biggest platforms, Trustpilot and Amazon, most opinions are either in the five-star and one-star categories.

Men who enjoy using the device say it helps them stay hard. Some report more intense sensations. But even they admit that it takes a lot of trial and error.

First, you need to pick the right size. Eddie comes in four different sizes, and the seller offers a free replacement if the one you choose is too large or too small.

Then, you need to figure out how to wear it properly and which of the two constriction bands gives you better erections. The constriction bands take some effort to connect them with the device.

The men who were not satisfied with Eddie complained that it did not work for them. Some talked about poor quality, saying the ring and constriction bands break easily.

Eddie is not a one-time-purchase kind of product. You should replace it every few months or when you change sexual partners. The bands wear off and need frequent replacing too.

Erectile Devices and ED Medication

It’s too early to say whether devices like Eddie can replace ED medication for some men. But one thing we know for sure: For guys who are not able to achieve a natural erection, Eddie will not do the trick. The ring functions to maintain the hardness of the penis, but the erection needs to happen first.

ED medication is effective for men who can’t achieve an erection

Some men say a combination of erectile dysfunction pills and a penis ring works best, so this is something to consider with Eddie. But if you are able to achieve and keep a reliable erection after taking Viagra, there might be no need to buy an additional — and pricey — device.

From what it looks like for now, Eddie is best suited for guys with mild to moderate ED. It does not require a prescription and can be ordered online.
