Average prices for Cialis and tadalafil in October were little changed from the previous month. No dramatic movement in prices is likely for the foreseeable future.
Cialis and its generic equivalent, tadalafil, are unique among the current ranks of erectile dysfunction drugs. By virtue of their extraordinarily long half-life, Cialis and tadalafil are available in two different formulations.
Higher-strength Cialis/tadalafil (10 to 20 milligrams) is prescribed for use as needed or on-demand. It’s to be taken an hour or so before the anticipated start of sexual activity. Cialis’s average price of $76.05 was up slightly from the $75.83 charged in both August and September but down from $78.06 in July. Tadalafil’s $28.37 price in October was down slightly from $28.67 in September, up from $27.47 in August, and down very sharply from $37.60 in July.
Cialis first faced generic competition in late September 2018 when Teva Pharmaceuticals’ version of tadalafil made its bow. That gave Teva a 180-day window of generic exclusivity, which since has expired, opening the door to additional generic competition. No dramatic changes in market conditions are foreseen for the short term, thus minimizing the likelihood of dramatic price changes in the near future.
