Blushing Girls, Pretty blushing girls, red cheeks, rosacea, Metro GelNobody likes to be embarrassed, and often times the flushing red of the cheeks or “blushing” that coincides with an embarrassing moment only makes the situation more uncomfortable for both people involved.  Some people blush frequently when they make even small mistakes or have a “slip of the tongue” and say something inappropriate, while other people seem to never blush no matter how embarrassing the situation may be.

Blushing often seems like a snowball effect, as the victim is aware that their cheeks are turning red, which in turn makes the cheeks turn a brighter red and the person even more embarrassed.

No matter how uncomfortable this sensation may be though, it can actually be beneficial in many social situations.  A new study has shown that people are more likely to be forgiving to someone who makes a social gaffe if they are seen to be blushing after they make the mistake.

The study was conducted at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands.  This study included a group of college students who played an online game with a virtual opponent who originally worked together with them to earn money, but later left the study participant’s team in favor of higher earnings with another player.  This was the trigger that would cause the visible embarrassment for the virtual reality female. Blushing, Rosacea, embarassment, shyness, rosacea, red cheeks, flushed cheeks

After each round, the participants were shown photos of their virtual female opponent with one of four expressions in reaction to her previous behaviors.  These expressions displayed by the women were neutral, neutral with a blush, embarrassment, and embarrassment with a blush.  The resulting data showed that the study participants judged their opponents much more kindly when they noticed them blushing, and often reported these blushing females to seem more honest.

“After you do something wrong, people like you more when you blush,” said lead author Corine Dijk, an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

On the other hand however, if your cheeks are constantly red it could be a sign of another condition called rosacea which causes a redness of the cheeks similar to blushing.  However, unlike blushing,  rosacea does not subside after a few minutes, and unfortunately many people don’t realize that it is a condition that can be treated by reducing inflammation and killing the bacteria which causes lesions to surface.  Metro Gel is currently the most effective product on the market, being consistently effective for the treatment of rosacea.
