esearch shows Nasacort, a once-daily nasal spray, is preferred over Claritin to fight allergies. The odorless, taste-free spray fights the pesky infections that can come on strong during allergy season.
“When treating allergic rhinitis, it’s important not only to have medications that work, but medications that patients like and will take,” said David Skoner, MD, a practicing allergist and immunologist at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and associate professor of pediatrics at the University

The study
With the help of about 350 patients that deal with seasonal allergies, including hay fever, doctors were able to evaluate the differences and benefits of two allergy medications: Nasacort and Claritin.
During the four week study patients said that Nasacort relieved their congestion, runny nose, nasal itch and sneezing faster and more effectively than Claritin.
Quality of Life
That same group also said their quality of life was improved while using Nasacort. “At day 14, Nasacort AQ patients reported a significantly better quality of life in activity, emotions, nasal symptoms, practical problems and overall quality of life. At day 28, those patients maintained a better quality of life over Claritin-treated patients in activity, nasal symptoms, practical problems and overall quality of life.”
The allergy ‘plague’
“I don’t know what I did in a previous life to deserve allergies as bad as I have them,” Diana Ruthel said jokingly. Every season, like clockwork, this construction worker is plagued with allergies.
“I have a runny nose, watery eyes and congestion,” she said. “It gets so bad that I have had to leave work on several occasions because I can’t even think straight.” With a job in the construction industry, safety is always a concern. Ruthel says nasal sprays have become the best solution for her.
