Jason Long’s ED-Protocol purports to offer a cure for erection problems to men who follow its dietary and nutritional recommendations.

In recent weeks, a host of articles about the so-called ED-Protocol have been popping up all over the Internet. Upon closer inspection, it seems that the vast majority of these articles are based on press releases — or variations thereof — from the man who developed this ¨all-natural¨ approach to curing erection problems.

Jason Long, developer of the ED-Protocol, says that men suffering from impotence should be able to achieve and maintain strong erections within 48 hours after beginning a dietary regimen outlined in the e-book he sells online.

Comparison Difficult

A comparison between Long’s ED-Protocol and the popular PDE5 inhibitors such as Viagra, Levitra, and Cialis is difficult because Long’s formula is more dietary or nutritional in nature, while the PDE5 inhibitors are prescription medications. While Long contends that adding certain amino acids, enzymes, and proteins to your diet can bring a permanent end to erection problems, the PDE5 inhibitors offer only temporary relief from impotence by promoting increased blood flow to the penis.

Apart from being ¨all-natural,¨ Long’s ED-Protocol is also said to be pretty much free of side effects, compared with what he characterizes as life-threatening adverse effects that can accompany the popular prescription impotence drugs.

Long’s description of the side effects from prescription impotence drugs differs significantly from the evidence produced in clinical studies of the PDE5 inhibitors. Such studies indicate that these drugs are generally safe and effective for most men, although they are inappropriate and not recommended for those who have severe heart conditions or are taking nitrate-based drugs.

Low Blood Flow Blamed

Both Long’s protocol and the popular prescription impotence medications concur that the root problem for most erection problems is compromised blood flow to the penis. The PDE5 inhibitors tackle that problem by temporarily deactivating an enzyme that is known to interfere with optimal blood flow. The emphasis here is on ¨temporarily,¨ because no claim is made that PDE5 inhibitors can provide a permanent cure for erection problems.

In contrast, Long suggests that anybody following his guidelines for including selected amino acids, enzymes, and proteins in their diet can banish erection problems forever in as little as 48 hours after starting his regimen.

Among the foods recommended in the ED-Protocol are oysters, which are rich in zinc. If you’re a vegetarian, you can get zinc from shitake mushrooms and pumpkin or sesame seeds.

To gain access to Long’s ED-Protocol formula, you’ll have to fork over $39.95 to purchase the e-book that outlines his program. However, if you’re not completely satisfied, Long says that he will return your money upon request for up to 60 days after your purchase.

Just a ¨Temporary¨ Problem?

Doubts about the scientific accuracy of Long’s program pop up during a cursory reading of the e-book’s introduction, which states categorically that ED ¨is not permanent but temporary.¨ The introduction goes on to say that ¨there is plenty you can do if you suffer from the condition, and there is a cure — one you can impart yourself, and what is more, you can do it at home.¨

Although the manufacturers of the PDE5 inhibitors — and most medical authorities — agree that impaired blood flow to the penis is the primary cause of erection problems, none has yet gone so far as to suggest that they can effectively cure impotence in all patients.

Can Anybody Be Cured?

Both medical professionals and those in the pharmaceutical industry recognize that making healthy lifestyle modifications can help relieve — and in some cases banish — the symptoms of impotence, but it’s doubtful that any of them believe such changes could cure anyone with erection problems.

In those with advanced atherosclerosis, all the good intentions and positive lifestyle changes imaginable will probably never succeed in restoring these men’s erectile function to something approaching normalcy.

However, young men who have only begun to experience occasional worrisome symptoms of impotence might well be able to rid themselves of the problem by substituting healthy lifestyle choices for those that aren’t so healthy.

Positive Lifestyle Changes

This means eating the right foods, exercising on a regular basis, quitting smoking, shedding excess weight, and keeping alcohol consumption to a minimum.

With regard to Jason Long and his ED-Protocol, there seems that thus far no objective study of his formula for an impotence cure has been undertaken. In fact, as previously mentioned, most of the online content about ED-Protocol appears to have come from Long’s public relations department.

At the heart of Long’s ED-Protocol regimen is a formula that combines eating certain foods rich in specific enzymes and/or amino acids and taking supplements of other erection-friendly nutrients that are not as readily available in foodstuffs.

Another erection-friendly food is watermelon, which is loaded with antioxidants that can help your body to combat the damaging effects of disease and aging.

Recommended Supplements

High on the list of supplements recommended by Long for the promotion of good erectile function are the amino acids known as proprionyl-L-carnitine and L-arginine. According to Long, proprionyl-L-carnitine helps the body to produce energy and, most importantly, seems to promote healthy circulation. L-arginine, says Long, is converted by the body into nitric oxide, a substance that dilates blood vessels to allow strong blood flow.

Other cornerstones of the ED-Protocol regimen include a number of nutrients that can be found in a wide array of animal- and plant-based foods. In particular, Long recommends zinc-rich foods, such as liver, oysters, pumpkin and sesame seeds, and shitake mushrooms; foods high in nitrates, such as leafy greens and beets; the flavonoids found in dark chocolate; and the protein of pistachios. He also suggests that your diet include generous portions of watermelon, rich in antioxidants; tomatoes and pink grapefruit, which are high in lycopene; and beets, tuna, and salmon, all of which are rich in niacin (also known as vitamin B-3).

Not Available from Booksellers

A quick check of popular booksellers, including Amazon and Barnes & Noble, that do some or all of their business online reveals that none of them sells Long’s ED-Protocol, which apparently is available only from his company’s EDProtocol.com website.

A visit to the EDProtocol website offers visitors an opportunity to view a lengthy slideshow in which Long explains how he came to find an impotence cure.  The initial impetus for his personal research came from accidentally overhearing his wife tearfully complain to a friend on the phone that her husband was no longer able to satisfy her and seemed disinterested in sex altogether.

Launches Research Project

Shocked and embarrassed, the 50-something Long immersed himself in a research project designed to find an all-natural way to overcome his erection problems. He admits that he had already tried some of the popular prescription impotence medications but said he was put off by their side effects and high cost.

Locking himself away in his home office, Long read everything he could about nutrients and supplements that seemed to support erectile function by improving blood flow to the penis. Through trial-and-error he searched for a formula that would deliver the results he wanted. When he finally found it, he decided to share his discovery with the world by outlining the regimen in an e-book he’s selling online.
