When men go in for that regular check-up, they normally make sure to answer each and every question the doctor has as in depth as possible. But when the dreaded “Are you having any sexual problems?” question comes along, some men are quick to answer “No” and wave the question away.

But they may be doing themselves a disservice. Trouble between the sheets could be an indicator of any number of problems, and by not answering truthfully, men could be setting themselves up for trouble down the road.

Experts say that the inability to achieve and sustain an erection could be an indicator of latent heart disease or diabetes. Because the blood vessels are so small in the penis, if they are being closed off and not delivering enough blood for an erection, it could be a sign of underlying problems.

In fact, men between the ages of 40 and 50 with erection problems are 50 times more likely to develop coronary artery disease over a ten-year period compared to men who do not have erection problems.

But it’s understandable that men aren’t quick to discuss their erection with a doctor. It’s a sensitive subject, and many don’t want to believe there’s even a problem.

But experts stress that men should seek help for any sexual problems they may have, and to be completely open and honest with the doctor.
