Increase Your Zinc to Improve Your Sex Life
Scientists and medical professionals have known for a while that zinc helps heal wounds, especially burns. It’s also needed for digestion, and for its ability to manufacture more than 200 different enzymes in the body.

But new research is adding to the proof of zinc’s benefits for a good sex life, especially for men, whose need for zinc is greater than women. From premature ejaculation to erectile dysfunction (ED), zinc is proving to be a game-changer in the bedroom.

Two studies on zinc

A study published in the medical journal Experimental and Therapeutic Medicine showed that men suffering from premature ejaculation who took a combination of zinc supplements, folic acid, biotin and the herb Rhodiola rosea, had more control over their ejaculations.

Another study, published in the Journal of Human Reproductive Sciences, showed that zinc supplements “significantly increased various measures of male sexual competence.” These included:

  • Higher testosterone levels (which can, in turn, help ED)
  • Fewer incidents of premature ejaculation
  • An ability to maintain erections for longer periods of time

What depletes men’s zinc levels?

There are several things that can work against men trying to maintain just the right amount of zinc. (Too much zinc can also be harmful, so strive for the perfect balance.) Some factors to consider:

  • ACE inhibitors
  • Pepcid, Prilosec and other acid-reducing medications
  • Thiazide diuretics
  • A high-grain diet involving grains that haven’t been sprouted or pre-soaked

How can I naturally add more zinc to my diet?

Although zinc supplements can certainly help if your doctor or dietician tells you that you’re deficient, there are plenty of foods that are naturally good sources of zinc. Try to add more of the following to your diet:

  • sunflower and pumpkin seeds
  • sprouts
  • peas
  • beets and beet greens
  • dark leafy greens
  • nuts
  • carrots
  • onions

If you suspect depleted zinc levels are causing ED or premature ejaculation, talk to your doctor about supplements and possibly ED drugs like Viagra, Levitra and Cialis.
