Using Cialis to Treat ED in Multiple Sclerosis

A large percentage of people with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) have sexual problems of some sort. For men with MS, erectile dysfunction (ED) is the most common complaint, although reduced libido, ejaculatory dysfunction and trouble orgasming are also reported among men with nerve damage.

Causes of ED in men with MS

There are several possible causes of ED in men with Multiple Sclerosis:

• Nerve damage related to the spinal cord, which affects communication between the brain and sexual organs, and can affect sexual arousal, response and orgasm

• A decrease in blood flow to the penis

• Psychological causes, such as feeling unattractive

Using Cialis to treat ED

Cialis is a popular erectile dysfunction drug that is often effective in men with MS because it helps to increase erectile response and enhance blood flow to the penis. Stimulation of the penis is still required for Cialis to cause an erection, so simply taking the pill won’t cause an immediate hard-on.

Some men who take Cialis experience side effects, but the pill’s effects are different for everyone. Those who do experience side effects tend to report headache, diarrhea, indigestion, sore throat, sinus pain and/or muscle pain.

Dosing Cialis

If you have MS and are experiencing ED, it’s recommended that you consult your doctor to ask if Cialis is a good option for you. (You’ll need to schedule an appointment anyway, as Cialis is only available by prescription.)

Generally, 10 mg of Cialis is taken before you plan to have sex. Depending on the efficacy, your dosage may be decreased to 5 mg or increased to 20 mg. It’s not recommended that anyone take more than one pill in 24 hours.

Before taking Cialis, talk to your doctor if you are taking any of the following:

• Adcirca
• Adempas (riociguat)
• Nitrate drugs

Some other medications may have drug interactions with Cialis, so be sure to disclose everything you’re taking.
