Bucking the downward trend of prices for other ED medications in the second half of 2019, the average prices for Cialis daily and tadalafil daily edged higher near the end of the six-month period.
The average prices for Cialis daily and its generic equivalent, tadalafil daily, ended the second half of 2019 with a price bump that left them higher in December than they’d been in November.
According to Secure Medical’s monthly price review, the average price for 5 mg Cialis daily at year’s end was $17.12, 4 percent higher than $16.46 in July and a whopping 22.5 percent higher than $13.97 in November.
Tadalafil Price Inches Higher
While somewhat less dramatic than the performance of its brand-name counterpart, the average price of tadalafil daily was $6.68 in December 2019, 12.2 percent lower than $7.61 in July but nearly 2 percent higher than $6.55 in November.
The uptrend in prices for Cialis daily and tadalafil daily runs counter to the other erectile dysfunction drugs, all of which fall into the category of as-needed medications. Prices for all of those drugs ended the second half of 2019 lower than where they stood at the beginning of the half.
Viagra/Sildenafil Prices
The average price for 100 mg Viagra in December 2019 was $76.71, 3.2 percent lower than $79.28 in July and just 50 cents lower than $77.21 in November. The average price for 100 mg sildenafil, Viagra’s generic equivalent, ended 2019 at $24.41, which was 27.3 percent lower than its average price of $33.56 in July.
Levitra/Vardenafil Prices
According to Secure Medical’s price review, the average price of 20 mg Levitra in December 2019 was $56.72, 9.9 percent lower than $62.98 in July. The price for Levitra’s generic equivalent, vardenafil, plummeted from $48.88 per 20 mg tablet in July to $28.36 in December, a sharp drop of nearly 42 percent.
Prices for Cialis/Tadalafil As-Needed
The same downward trend was observed in prices for Cialis as-needed and tadalafil as-needed, the higher-strength counterparts of the daily medications. The average price of 20 mg Cialis as-needed was $76.23, 2.3 percent lower than $78.06 in July. Average prices for tadalafil as-needed fell 27.3 percent from $37.60 in July to $27.33 in December.
There’s no easy explanation for the apparent divergence of prices for Cialis daily and tadalafil daily from the overall downward trend observed in prices for all other ED medications.
