Pivot Pharmaceuticals, a small Canadian-based biopharmaceutical company, thinks its topical cream, code named PVT-005, may be an answer to the problem of HSDD. The company specializes in the development and commercialization of nutraceuticals based on cannabinoids, non-hallucinogenic chemical compounds derived from marijuana.
Pivot has filed with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Health Canada for permission to begin clinical testing of its cannabinoid-based topical cream that it believes can increase sexual desire in women who seem to have lost it. While Addyi was designed exclusively for premenopausal women, Pivot’s topical product reportedly would work for perimenopausal, menopausal, and postmenopausal women as well. The cream would be applied intravaginally, according to Pivot’s press release.
