The Chinese company Hebei Changshan Biochemical Pharmaceutical saw its stock rise significantly after making an unverified claim that up to 140 million men in China suffer from erectile dysfunction.
The company, which makes an erectile dysfunction drug containing sildenafil citrate, the chemical used in the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra, experienced the maximum daily limit 10% increase in its share price after the announcement.
But when asked about the legitimacy of the statistic, the erectile dysfunction drug manufacturer admitted in a statement that it simply took the number from a 2014 report put out by financial services company Guosen Securities without verifying its accuracy.
Those erectile dysfunction statistics
The statement from Hebei Changshan Biochemical Pharmaceutical said, “The company has obtained the relevant approval for production of sildenafil citrate tablets, but the new product’s market size, promotion and market share may be lower than expected.
The future sales of this product have great uncertainty and there is a risk of increased market competition for this product. Investors are advised to make prudent decisions and pay attention to investment risks.”
Pfizer, the pharmaceutical company that makes erectile dysfunction drug Viagra, saw its patent for Viagra expire in China in 2014. Now Viagra competes with the Chinese version of erectile dysfunction drugs.
Erectile dysfunction and Viagra in the United States
In the United States, men who suffer from erectile dysfunction can get a prescription for the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra from their doctor or even online. Requiring a prescription for Viagra helps ensure that the erectile drug is pure and effective.
Too often, fake Viagra being sold on the Black Market contains dangerous ingredients, including toxins like road paint, detergent, and arsenic.
Viagra works for more than 80% of men with erectile dysfunction and is the most popular erectile dysfunction drug in the world. It’s also the most counterfeited drug in the world.
