A new ad blitz to promote nonprescription Viagra Connect is making the rounds in the United Kingdom. British men can now buy a 50-milligram dose of the little blue pill without a prescription.
In the summer of 2018, Pfizer launched its new promotional campaign for Viagra Connect. The new over-the-counter Viagra went on the market in the United Kingdom in April 2018. The main the goal of the campaign is to remove the stigma around erectile dysfunction drugs.
The campaign focuses on print and outdoor ads and uses comparisons to common everyday items to reflect how many men in the United Kingdom have erectile dysfunction. One ad reads:
“4.3 million men in the U.K. experience erectile problems. That’s a lot of men. That’s enough to fill every major British football stadium, in fact. That’s more men than people who went to a rugby match last year. That’s more men than all the people who go to the gym every day, even. So a lot of men will be glad to know that Viagra Connect is now available without a prescription.”
Another print ad reads:
“4.3 million men in the U.K. experience erectile problems. That’s a lot of men. That’s more men than there are words in this newspaper, in fact. That’s twenty-five times more men than there are words in the English language. More men than all the words in all the novels Charles Dickens ever wrote, even. So a lot of men will be glad to know that Viagra Connect is now available without a prescription.”
WPP, which bills itself as “the world leader in communications service,” created the campaign, which was led by Y&R London. But the campaign is truly a group effort, with Geometry UK handling shopper communications, Burson Cohn & Wolfe doing the PR, Wavemaker providing social and content partnerships, and Ogilvy CommonHealth Worldwide developing the educational and training materials that will be used by pharmacists.
