You probably know that drinking too much can lead to erectile dysfunction (ED). But there are less common ways that you can avoid ED, some of which you may never have heard of.
Acupuncture
Before you freak out thinking there will be needles poked into your penis, take note: the prick points are only in your back.
Traditional Chinese medicine has been around since people were seeking treatments for ED and with good reason: it works. One study published in the International Journal of Impotence Research found that 74% of men who went through six weeks of acupuncture were able to get erections and needed no additional treatment.
Kegels
If the word sounds familiar, it’s probably because you’ve heard that women are advised to do Kegel exercises after childbirth to strengthen their pelvic floor and help control urinary incontinence.
In men, Kegels are done by contracting the muscle that stops you from peeing midstream. In one British study authored by Grace Dorey, Ph.D., 40% of men who practiced Kegels daily for six months regained their erections.
Blackberries
Dark fruits like blackberries contain antioxidants called anthocyanins, which attack free radicals before they can decrease your nitric oxide levels. Nitric oxide is chemical that dilates your blood vessels, helping you get an erection.
An Indiana University study found that even after free radicals surged through arteries, anthocyanins were still able to maintain the high levels of nitric oxide needed.
Dark Chocolate
When dessert helps you have sex, you know it’s a good day!
Dark chocolate contains flavonoids, which trigger dilating chemicals in the arteries. A study out of the University of California at San Francisco found that men who ate just 1.6 ounces of dark chocolate daily increased their blood vessel dilation by more than 10 percent.
Bricks
Yep, you read that correctly. Placing bricks under the bedposts at the head of your bed may help you stop snoring, which can deprive your tissues of much-needed oxygen.
