With the snow finally melting, it’s time to think spring. Here are 5 ways to get outside and enjoy the weather while getting yourself in better shape:

Hit the trails this spring for a good workout.

Go for a walk

It’s a simple exercise, but walking is great for your body. Plus, after a long winter, getting outside and feeling the sunshine on your face will be just as nice as the calories you’ll burn. For the best results, you’ll want to vary the pace of your walk. Go fast for a minute and a little slower for the next two minutes. Make a goal to walk for one hour at least three times a week.

Go for the stairs

Whether you’re going for a nice stroll or a heart-pounding run, take a route with stairs. This will really get your metabolism moving. Make your outside route a circle so you can go both up and down the set of stairs.

Volleyball

One of the best ways to stay active is with group activities. Get a few buddies together for a game of volleyball. You’ll have so much fun that you’ll forget about all the muscles you’re toning.

Hit the bike paths

Send the bike in for a tune up and hit the trails. Once the snow is clear, biking is a great exercise. You’ll start to sculpt your legs, thighs, and butt. Start on easy trails and then hit a trail with a few inclines. By changing up your routine, you’ll keep from getting bored. Plus, the changes in elevation will tone your body.

Hiking

Get online and look for a few hiking trails that are nearby. You’ll get some exercise while checking out some amazing landscapes. Get a few friends to go with you, if you’d like. Some people prefer to hike alone and take in the scenery as they go; others like company. Either way is fine. Be sure to wear appropriate footwear and take water with you.

In fact, safety should be a main concern with all of these activities. Don’t underestimate your body’s need for water. Always take some with you. Always wear the appropriate clothes and shoes too.
