Staxyn and Stendra, the last two erectile dysfunction medications to make their debuts on the U.S. market, are both notable for their rapid onset of action.
Anecdotal reports indicate that these drugs, depending on the dosage taken, can take effect in as little as 15 minutes.
Their manufacturers conservatively suggest somewhat longer lead times.
Here’s what you should know about these two ED drugs.
- Staxyn (vardenafil hydrochloride) contains the same active ingredient as Levitra but is sold in orosoluble (dissolves in the mouth) form, which makes it faster acting than the older medication. It is available only in tablets of 10 milligrams each. The drug’s manufacturer recommends that the drug is taken 30 to 60 minutes before the anticipated start of sexual activity, but many users report that the drug takes effect within the first 15 minutes. Its duration of action ranges from five to six hours. Staxyn was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in June 2010.
- Stendra (avanafil) is available in tablets of 50, 100, and 200 milligrams each. Mist Pharmaceuticals LLC, the drug’s New Jersey-based manufacturer, says that both the 100 and 200 milligram tablets become effective as early as 15 minutes after they’re taken, while the 50 milligram tablet usually takes 30 minutes to become effective. Anecdotal reports indicate that some users have experienced even faster onset of action. The drug’s duration of action is roughly six hours. The FDA approved Stendra in April 2012.
