According to a recent study conducted by Sveriges Radio, Viagra is on the rise among the elderly in Sweden. The number of 65+ year old men utilizing Viagra has grown from a paltry 37,000 to a staggering 55,000 men in 2013.
Experts applaud the men utilizing Viagra to spice up their sex lives, especially because Sweden has historically done a lackluster job of supplying the elderly with sexual advice and support.
Seniors in Sweden complain that the stigma against the sex lives of the elderly has made it especially hard to seek help, because so many believed the subject to be taboo.
But a recent study from Lund University found through interviews that one of the most common words used by older couples was “intimacy.”
“Intimacy means a lot of different things to the men, but what they have in common is that intimacy represents a renegotiation and an attitude that sex is more than intercourse,” the study noted. “That sexuality is allowed to take time- and in which an erection isn’t a given- and it doesn’t mean that the sex becomes worse.”
As more and more senior men decide to pursue Viagra as an aid to achieving an erection, experts are quick to stress that they should do so with pride.
