The average prices of antiviral medications Valtrex, valacyclovir, and acyclovir were mixed in March 2020. However, all three were down sharply from their mid-2019 levels.

All three of these potent antivirals were down sharply in price from their levels in mid-2019. Acyclovir’s March 2020 price of $1 was down 81.8 percent from its July 2019 price of $5.50. Valacyclovir’s March 2020 price of $4 was 58.2 percent lower than its price of $9.58 in July 2019.
Although its price decline was less dramatic than either acyclovir or valacyclovir, Valtrex slipped 20.2 percent from $18.05 in July 2019 to $14.40 in March 2020.
Fighting HSV1, HSV2 Outbreaks
As previously noted, these medications help to reduce the severity of outbreaks caused by infection with the herpes simplex 1 and 2 viruses.
