Introduced in 2012, Stendra was the last of the brand-name erectile dysfunction drugs to debut on the U.S. market. Because it still has valid U.S. patents in force, it probably won’t go generic until 2025.
Stendra is the new kid on the block among the brand-name erectile dysfunction drugs available in the United States. Introduced in 2012, it is unlikely to face generic competition until 2025. This makes it the only brand-name ED medication without generic competition.
Stendra’s active ingredient is avanafil, a chemical compound that belongs to the family of ED medications known as PDE5 inhibitors. They are so-called because they temporarily sideline an enzyme known as phosphodiesterase-5, which can interfere with optimal blood flow to the penis.
How It Compares to Viagra, Levitra
Dispensed in tablets of 50, 100, and 200 mg, Stendra takes effect quickly — as little as 15 minutes — and lasts for up to six hours. This makes it faster acting than either Viagra or Levitra and slightly longer lasting than either of those drugs.
