Anne Hathaway falls in love with a Viagra salesman in the movie "Love and Other Drugs," in theatres Nov. 24, 2010.It seems as if the sex scenes in “Love and Other Drugs” are causing quite the stir across the Internet now that movie reviews are surfacing for the film. Hollywood stars Jake Gyllenhall and Anne Hathaway, who were featured together in “Brokeback Mountain,” have a very different relationship in “Love and Other Drugs.”

Gyllenhall is a pharmaceutical rep in his latest on-screen effort, which debuts in three weeks on November 24, the day before Thanksgiving. His pursuit in the movie is Hathaway, who has been diagnosed at age 26 with Parkinson’s disease. As MTV stated, it’s surprising to see that “these two A-listers seem to bare it all at nearly every turn.”

Although Hathaway has been known to wear some provocative outfits and be somewhat of a tease, this movie takes her on-screen shenanigans to a whole new level. Although she told MTV that she had a “loving and open” experience with Gyllenhaal while filming the scenes, Us Weekly stated that Hathaway was a little uneasy with some of the scenes, to be sure.Jake Gyllenhaal sells Viagra and falls in love with Anne Hathaway in "Love and Other Drugs."

Variety states on its website that the film is a “smartly packaged item” that doesn’t skew from the typical aura of a romance comedy, aside from two things stick out: the less-than-complementary portrayal of how pharmaceutical companies get their business, and the uncommon helpings of sexual candor and nudity.

Edward Zwick, a popular and successful Hollywood director, was also in charge of this Viagra-related flick. Reviews note that his movie “Blood Diamond” does draw some comparisons to his latest effort because it seeks to expose an unscrupulous industry that seems to be driven solely by money. In the end, however, it seems Zwick’s efforts to lambaste the drug industry lose their teeth in favor of a love story and its heart-wrenching effects on the characters and audience.

Anne Hathaway falls in love with a Viagra salesman from Pfizer (Jake Gyllenhaal) in "Love and Other Drugs."

The movie was filmed in and around Pittsburgh, and it harkens back to the music and happenings of the mid-to-late 1990s – which makes sense because Viagra was brought to market in 1998.

The film is loosely based on book written by Jamie Reidy, who himself sold Viagra for the drug’s manufacturer, Pfizer. “Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman,” was published by Andrews McMeel Publishing in 2005 to mixed reviews. Many online reviews find the book to be a sobering view of reality intertwined with many of Reidy’s laugh-out-loud, real-life experiences. Jim Edwards with BNET reported that Reidy was fired as a sales training exec by Cialis manufacturer Eli Lilly after the book was published.

If you have read the book, or have seen the movie, feel free to leave a comment with regard to which one (or both) is entertaining, and if there is any correlation between the two works.
