Just because they’re famous doesn’t mean celebrities are immune to erectile dysfunction (ED).

For some, like Hugh Hefner, their name has become associated with ED drugs like Viagra, making for a lot of jokes. For others, their association with ED drugs comes straight from their own endorsement, like the following three famous men.

Mike Ditka for Levitra

In 2003, Bayer and GlaxoSmithKline, the pharmaceutical companies behind Levitra, paid to be a sponsor of the NFL, paying former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka to be the spokesperson for the ED drug in its commercials.

In a light-hearted jab at Viagra, who had sponsored baseball, Levitra’s Super Bowl ad featured him suggesting that football is better than baseball.

Bob Dole for Viagra

The former U.S. senator from Kansas may not have succeeded in his 1996 run for President, but he was very successful in helping Pfizer raise awareness about treating impotence.

In 1999, a year after Viagra launched, Dole appeared in TV ad campaigns to encourage men to seek help for ED.

In the commercials, he talks about his prostate cancer diagnosis and his concern about impotence being a side effect.

He never mentioned Viagra by name, but the commercial was sponsored by Pfizer and at the time, Viagra was the only ED drug on the market.

At another time, Dole publicly admitted to having participated in Pfizer’s clinical trials for Viagra, saying he considered it to be “a great drug.”

Rafael Palmeiro for Viagra

Texas Rangers first baseman Rafael Palmeiro was paid $2 million to hock Viagra in a commercial that took a total of five hours to shoot.

You do the math.

According to an article on SeattlePI.com, Mariners designated hitter Edgar Martinez was originally approached by Pfizer to do the commercial, but he turned down the offer because he thought being the spokesperson would take up too much of his time.

When told Palmeiro made $400,000 an hour, “he about fell over,” said the article.
