The reason behind the recall
Several supplements made by Midwest Wholesale are being recalled. One supplement called Sexy Monkey claims to be all-natural and lists ingredients like ginkgo and Chinese wolfberry on the label. While the ingredients may sound natural, the FDA says the supplement contains sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra.
The makers of the supplement are voluntarily recalling the “effected batches” and notifying customers of the problem, according to an FDA press release. Stores in Pennsylvania, New York, Illinois, Texas, Iowa, Georgia, Connecticut, Florida, Louisiana, Maryland, Nevada, and Wisconsin all received tainted supplements.
“Consumers should stop using this product immediately and throw it away,” the FDA statement says. “Consumers who have experienced any negative side effects should consult a health care professional as soon as possible.”
Supplement maker in question
The supplement’s maker, Midwest Wholesale, has the exact problem with several other supplements it sells. Boost Ultra, XZone Gold, Triple MiracleZen Platinum, and Extenze also contained sildenafil, according to Business Insider. Extenze was recalled several years ago with the same issue.

Prescription needed for real Viagra
Lifestyle medications like Viagra require a prescription. The medication can interfere with other prescriptions and cause harmful effects, which is one of the reasons why Viagra is given only with a doctor’s permission.
If you are suffering with erectile dysfunction, it’s best to talk with your doctor rather than seek over-the-counter treatments like supplements. While the FDA checks supplements, they aren’t subject to the same rigorous testing as medications, which means harmful ingredients could be used to make them.
