Men are happy now that they have two more topical erectile dysfunction treatments - Vitaros and Testim.
New ED medication could be available by the end of the year.
More than year and half after Stendra was approved by the FDA to treat erectile dysfunction, the medication may finally make it to the U.S. market.

Clearing hurdles

The maker’s of Stendra, Vivus, have finally found a American marketing partner to help get roll out the ED drug, after dealing with management changes and a not-so-hot launch of a weight loss medication called Qsymia.

Auxilium Pharmaceuticals, which has an established sales network of other men’s health products, will market Stendra.

According to reports, Auxilium will pay $30 million in licensing fees and an estimated $270 million in milestone payments.

If all goes according to plan, the company will start shipping Stendra in December.

More about Strendra

Stendra is the new erectile dysfunction drug on the block. The drug is said to work within 15 minutes of taking it, which means it works 15 minutes faster than Viagra.

While Viagra is a household name, health experts say Stendra could put a dent in the little blue pill’s market share because experts speculate Stendra will be cheaper than Viagra.

Viagra and Stendra may be new competitors, market analysts say a new options is always good patients.

“This approval expands the available treatment options to men experiencing erectile dysfunction, and enables patients, in consultation with their doctor, to choose the most appropriate treatment for their needs,” Victoria Kusiak, MD, deputy director of the Office of Drug Evaluation III in the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research said.

A prescription is needed for both medications and a doctor will advise his patients about the pros and cons of each before prescribing an oral treatment.
