Snoring: It’s loud, it’s annoying, and it’s a potential sign of erection problems. Yes, if you sound like a backfiring car when you fall asleep, experts say this could be a subtle sign of incoming problems for your erection.

That’s not to say regular, run-of-the-mill snoring is an indication of serious health problems. Experts say that men who suffer from severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) are at a higher risk of erection problems.

A recent study conducted by researchers at the Mayo Clinic is Rochester, Minnesota assessed whether milder forms of snoring problems could lead to erection problems.

For the study, the researchers surveyed 827 men with a regular sexual partner concerning their sleep and sleeping habits, as well as questions about their libido.

The subjects were then split up into three groups base on the severity of their snoring (Heavy snorers, moderate snorers, and mild/no snorers.)

The study found that the incidence of erection problems was significantly higher in the heavy snoring group. The study also found that the partner’s of the men in the heavy snoring group reported much lower sexual satisfaction.

Researchers used the findings of this study to stress that men who struggle with severe OSA to seek consultation with a doctor. With the proper medication and treatment, men could find their sleeping habits, along with their sex life, improve dramatically.
