In March of 2010, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning for a product called Man Up Now, a dietary supplement for men that promises fast acting sexual enhancement for those who take it. Advertised as an herbal supplement, Man Up Now promises “instant results” without needing a prescription.
The FDA warns the product’s promise is misleading. Approved products that address male erectile dysfunction (ED) must be prescribed by physicians because of certain chemical components that may cause harmful side effects. Man Up Now comes in capsule form and is sold over the counter or on-line.
Concern was raised due to an “unpredictable risk” in misinterpreting the product’s advertising as an “all natural” herbal supplement. In actuality, Man Up Now contains sulfoaildenafil, a compound remarkably similar to sildenafil, which is found in Viagra, a top, rated medication for treating ED. Both chemicals are known to react negatively in those who have heart conditions, or take nitroglycerin for heart issues. As the FDA reports, Sulfoaildenafil could “dangerously” lower blood pressure resulting in an “unpredictable risk”.
The initial product warning urged anyone taking Man Up Now to “stop using immediately” due to an “undeclared drug ingredient.” Unknowing consumers who believe the “all natural” claim could unknowingly take the capsule assuming no interference with other health factors. FDA approved ED medication is thoroughly tested and comes with copious warnings of risk factors and possible side effects. Unapproved products do not abide by such disclosure guidelines.
When a product touting sexual enhancement claims to work “instantly”, or “in minutes” consumers must proceed cautiously; tested and approved medication takes at least 30 minutes to take effect. Fast acting supplements like Man Up Now, under certain conditions, will deprive the brain of adequate blood supply, therefore causing dizziness and feeling light headed. In extreme cases, stroke or death could result.
Distributed by Synergy Distribution, LLC, Man Up Now can still be purchased on-line. It is not banned or recalled, yet the FDA warning must be taken seriously: Stop Using Immediately.
