Armed with a phony medical degree purchased from a diploma mill in Kansas City, Missouri, Brinkley set up a 16-room medical clinic in the tiny town of Milford, located in the northeastern quadrant of Kansas. It was there that the ersatz doctor began advertising his sure-fire cure for erectile dysfunction — the implantation of goat testicles in men suffering from impotence.
Not surprisingly, the poorly schooled Brinkley’s venture into surgery went badly. Many of his patients came down with life-altering infections, and an untold number reportedly died in the aftermath of treatment by Brinkley. Between 1930 and 1941, Brinkley was the target of more than a dozen wrongful death suits.

Predictably, Hollywood has seized upon the Brinkley story as the perfect fodder for a film script, according to a report at CinemaBlend.com. Actually the film, set to star Matt Damon as the good doctor, will be based on Pope Brock’s 2008 book “Charlatan,” which recounts Brinkley’s story and ultimate downfall.
Brinkley’s story illustrates the lengths to which men will go to regain lost erectile function.
