In Australia, 10% of Men Have a Curved Penis
According to new research, boomerangs aren’t the only things curved down under.

News.com.au reports that the condition, known as Peyronie’s disease, has been found in one in 10 Australian men.

The painful condition causes either an indentation or curvature, the latter of which can range between 30 and 60 degrees compared to a typical penis.

How does it happen?

Peyronie’s disease occurs when a man injures his penis—either while flaccid or erect—and it heals improperly, leaving built-up scar tissue.

“Having a curved erection can make it difficult to have penetrative sex, it can cause pain to the man or their partner,” says the lead author’s study, Professseek Chung. “Plus, it can affect blood flow. So it may cause erectile dysfunction.”

The website www.mypeyronies.com reports that more than two-thirds of men with Peyronie’s experience erection problems at some point, leading them to seeking assistance, often from erectile dysfunction drugs, such as Cialis.

Although it’s something that men are advised to discuss with their a doctor if they’re seeking erectile dysfunction drugs, many are too embarrassed to mention it. But it’s vital to have the discussion rather than just ask for a prescription for Cialis, as sexual activity can reinjure your penis.

That’s not to say that your doctor won’t give you prescription for Cialis or another erectile dysfunction drug; it just means you need to have the conversation to get advice on what to watch out for.

“This is a sexual condition that remains a very taboo and private thing,” says Chung.

Other results of the study

The same study, which was done by the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand, also found that one in four men is bothered by the appearance of his erect penis, and one in six experience pain or discomfort when erect. In addition, one in five has difficulty during sex.
