Indian Drug Firm Gets U.S. FDA Nod to Sell Erectile Dysfunction Drug.
The Indian pharmaceutical firm Zydus Cadilla announced on November 23, 2017 that it has received tentative approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to market tadalafil, an erectile dysfunction drug.

If all goes as planned, the tadalafil tablets will be manufactured in the company’s facility in Moraiya, Ahmedabad. The pills will be sold in varying strengths: 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg and 20 mg.

About Tadalafil

Tadalafil is the generic name for Cialis, one of the most popular erectile dysfunction drugs, along with Viagra and Levitra. It’s also used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia, an age-associated enlargement of the prostate gland that can cause an increased need to urinate, especially at night.

Tadalafil works by relaxing the muscles of the blood vessels and increasing blood flow to the penis. To treat erectile dysfunction, it’s typically taken once per day just before sexual activity, with or without food.

Another brand of tadalafil is known by the name Adcirca. It’s used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension and can help increase exercise capacity.

Who shouldn’t take tadalafil

Although most men with erectile dysfunction can safely take tadalafil/Cialis, there are a few exceptions.

Men who take nitrates for chest pain or heart problems—including nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate, isosorbide mononitrate—shouldn’t take tadalafil/Cialis, as it can cause a sudden decrease in blood pressure. The same is true for men who take recreational drugs called “poppers.”

It’s important to remember that tadalafil can stay in your bloodstream for more than two days after each dose, so don’t assume it’s safe to take some of the above-mentioned medications the day after you take tadalafil.

In addition, men who take certain medicines, such as riociguat (i.e., Adempas), which is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension, need to talk to their doctor before taking tadalafil/Cialis for erectile dysfunction.

For some men, a conversation with your doctor will help you decide if tadalafil/Cialis is safe for you to take. That’s because the risk associated with certain health concerns need to weighed against the benefits of taking tadalafil/Cialis.
