FDA Stops Shipment of Fake Cialis Entering U.S.

Not all online pharmacies are created equal, so be careful where you purchase Cialis for erectile dysfunction.

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) recommends that consumers only buy prescription medicines from state-licensed pharmacies.

 The Real Deal

Authentic Cialis tablets are made by Eli Lilly and have FDA approval. The tablets’ active ingredient is tadalafil, and the pills are considered safe and effective.

 The Problem with Counterfeit Cialis

In the past, the FDA has intercepted counterfeit versions of Cialis tablet coming into the United State from an unknown source. The 20 mg tablets were found in the mail on their way to a consumer and an FDA analysis reported that the fake pills contained “multiple active ingredients, which, if used, could result in adverse effects or harm.”

Without knowing where the pills come from, the FDA can’t ensure the quality of their ingredients, manufacturing, storage or handling. Consumers are urged not to use any prescription medicines not purchased from state-licensed pharmacies.

 Recognizing Fake Cialis tablets

So how do you know if you’ve received counterfeit Cialis? According to the FDA website, you should look for one or more of these signs on the label:

  • No indication of tablet strength in a colored box
  • Lists “AUSTR81137” on the front of the label
  • Misspelled words on the side of the label, such as “CLALIS is a product of: Eli lilly Australia PTY Limited”
  • No NDC number on the front of the label (e.g., NDC 0002-4462-30 for the 20mg tablets)
  • Colors on the front label are yellow and darker green
  • Side of label lists manufacturer’s location as “112 Wharf Road, WEST RYDE, NSW 2114”
  • Side of label lists “Lot: AC 066018, Exp: 01SEP17”
