Persistent scammers are still claiming that a male enhancement supplement variously marketed as ZyGenX, Biogenic XR, and Test Troxin was a winning product idea on Shark Tank. Their story is full of holes.
Immortal English playwright William Shakespeare in the late 16th century wrote that “a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” Today, we must try to figure out if a scam called by any other name would be any less of a scam than it was when it first surfaced.
Probably not. For the last couple of years and perhaps even more, reports have circulated of a sexual enhancement product that supposedly won favor with all the judges of Australia’s TV version of Shark Tank. Or was it the U.S. version of the show? Or perhaps Dragon’s Den, the Canadian equivalent of Shark Tank?
What’s Shark Tank?
For those unfamiliar with these reality TV shows, they offer a platform where would-be entrepreneurs can showcase innovative new product ideas before a panel of wealthy prospective investors. If one or more of those investors thinks a new product has potential, he or she can pledge an investment in exchange for a piece of the business that product would generate.
In the most recent incarnation of this scam that we’ve been able to track down, an article posted at sports.com-4daily.top tells how a product now being marketed as ZyGenX first won over Shark Tank judges. Not content to depict the product as just another success story from the TV show, the article claims that brothers Christopher and Michael Williams showcased their male supplement idea on the show’s most-watched episode ever. So impressed were the judges that they each decided to invest a cool $1 million in the product idea, according to the article.
Williams or Amini?
In a strange coincidence, an accompanying photo of the so-called Williams brothers bears an uncanny resemblance to brothers Albert and Richard Amini, medical doctors both of whom graduated from the University of Arizona’s College of Medicine.
As it turns out, the Amini brothers did appear on a September 2013 episode of Shark Tank (U.S. version) to promote a mobile health app they called Rolodoc. The Aminis’ product idea didn’t elicit much interest from judges and was described by judge Mark Cuban as the “worst pitch ever.” Our research failed to turn up any evidence that ZyGenX or any product resembling it was ever showcased on any version of Shark Tank.
Also Sold Under Different Names
An earlier story posted to the eDrugstore.com blog back in May 2018 said that earlier incarnations of this ongoing scam had touted the male enhancement product under the names of Biogenic XR and Test Troxin.
Informational pages about ZyGenX at AmericanCasein.com and ConsumerHealthDigest.com claim the product contains a number of widely recognized herbal ingredients, some of which are said to help treat ED. Such ingredients include saw palmetto berry, l-arginine, ginkgo biloba, horny goat weed, and red Asian ginger. While one or more of these ingredients might be marginally helpful to men with ED, it’s doubtful that singly or in combination they could fully relieve the symptoms of male impotence.
But given the product’s sketchy background and multiple representations in promotional materials, consumers would probably best be advised to steer clear of ZyGenX altogether.
