Another dietary supplement is claiming to treat erectile dysfunction, but like others, it’s proving dangerous. Viotren claims to “restore” testosterone levels and more, but there is no solid evidence to back up the claims. Spending your money on proven medications for erectile dysfunction (ED) makes far more sense.

What’s The Big Deal?

A dietary supplement called Viotren is being sold as a treatment for erectile dysfunction with the promise that it restores testosterone levels in 72 hours and improves circulation. But there’s a lot of questionable information (or lack of information) on the product, which has no evidence to back up the claims, is sold with a promise of “twice your money back” for anyone who’s not satisfied, and pushes buyers to “act now” before the discount runs out.

Aside from being sketchy in terms of unfulfilled promises, there’s a bigger concern: safety. Even if Viotren or some of the other “ED supplements” really do give you an erection, it could be due to one or more of the undeclared ingredients.

The FDA has a list of nearly 300 products claiming to enhance sex or treat erectile dysfunction that actually do have some the active ingredients found in the prescription ED drugs like Cialis. The problem is that most aren’t labeled, which can cause risky interactions for people on other medications that interact with those ingredients.

Even men who aren’t on other medications could run into problems, seeing as the FDA found one product that contained 31 times the prescription dose of tadalfil (the generic name for Cialis).

What to Avoid

If you’re looking for an erectile dysfunction medicine, talk to your doctor about getting a prescription for Viagra, Cialis or Levitra. Dietary “ED” supplements sold at your local convenience story are neither effective nor safe.

The FDA has issued health warnings about the following:

  1. Man Up Now
  2. Stiff nights
  3. Rock Hard Weekend
  4. Vitalex
  5. Mr. Magic Male Enhancer from Don Wands
  6. Magic Power Coffee
  7. Duro Extend Capsules for Men
  8. Vigor-25
  9. Xiadafil VIP
  10. Time Out Capsules

Don’t trust any ED drug that doesn’t require a prescription.
