A Korean Company Will Market Cialis
Pharmaceutical company Lilly Korea, which operates as a subsidiary of Cialis drug maker Eli Lilly and Company, has just signed a partnership to allow Handok to exclusively market the erectile dysfunction drug Cialis in Korea.

Renewing a partnership

Cialis one of the best-selling medications in Korea, where sales for the erectile dysfunction drug began in 2003. In addition to being marketed for erectile dysfunction, Cialis is used to treat enlargement of the prostate called, more formally referred to as “benign prostatic hyperplasia.”

It’s not Handok’s first time marketing Cialis. The company had an agreement to co-promote the erectile dysfunction drug in Korea from July 2010 to May 2015.

“The company is pleased to market Cialis again,” says Handok CEO and chairman Kim Young-jin, “and the company will do its best to market the drug with the exclusive marketing contract.”

Lilly Korea CEO Paul Henry Huibers is confident that the continued partnership will be beneficial to everyone, including the doctors prescribing the Cialis and the patients using the erectile dysfunction drugs.

“Cialis provides new treatment options for erectile dysfunction and benign prostatic hyperplasia while improving the quality of life for patients,” says Huibers. “Through this strategic partnership, the two companies will collaborate in delivering quality information to domestic healthcare professionals, while ensuring smooth supply of pharmaceuticals.”

About Lilly Korea Ltd.

Formerly known as Daewoong Lilly Co, the Seoul, South Korea-based Lilly Korea was founded in 1982.

In 2015, Eli Lilly’s patent for Cialis expired in South Korea and immediately, 60 pharmaceutical companies released more than 150 generic version of the erectile dysfunction drug.

Erectile dysfunction in the United States

Like South Korea, erectile dysfunction drugs are a big business. In the U.S., men seeking erectile dysfunction drugs have several prescription choices, with Cialis being a top choice.

The FDA continues to warn men that nutritional supplements claiming to cure erectile dysfunction can be extremely dangerous because there is no guarantee that the ingredients are pure or dosed in a safe amount.
