Scientology is making bizarre headlines once again. BBC Panorama reporter John Sweeney says two giant crop circles sitting in the New Mexico is a marker for an alien space cathedral built by scientologists.

New book makes claims of underground cathedral

Sweeny makes these claims in his new book, “Church of Fear: Inside the Weird World of Scientology.”

The giant crop circles with diamond-shapes inside are reportedly a salute to space creatures and help guide the unknown beings to find Mr. Hubbard’s teachings. (Hubbard is the founder of the religion.)

Beneath these circles is said to be a titanium-sealed bunker, according to an article in NY Times.

“Its vault houses the lectures of Hubbard on gold discs locked in titanium caskets sealed with argon. The cathedral is H-bomb proof,” Sweeney reports in his book.

“If I’m wrong about the church believing in aliens, then why have they built these giant symbols in the middle of the desert that can only be seen from outer space,” Sweeney says.

The Huffington Post says Sweeny claims the cathedral cost millions and was built underground in the 1980s.

Church denies claims

Scientology spokeswoman Karin Pouw told NBC News in an email that Sweeny’s claims are false. She says there is a ‘storage facility’ in New Mexico that is marked, but the crop circles aren’t meant to hail aliens.

“The facility is in such a remote area, the most practical way to it is by air,” she wrote. “The corporate logo of the church that operates the facility is carved into the ground to help pilots find the facility. This is commonly done by major corporations.”

In Sweeny’s book, he claims he drove up to this facility. He made it to a small intercom area, where he asked to check the place out. A voice said hello, but said nothing after that.
