We’ve got a list of four things you probably didn’t know about sunscreen. Read on to protect yourself against the sun’s harmful rays this season.
Sunscreen protection on your clothes
Did you know there’s a new product that adds an SPF to your clothes? It’s true. You simply toss this product in with your laundry and once your clothes are washed and dried they’ll block up to 96 percent of the sun’s rays.
New sunscreen labels
The FDA recently forced all sunscreen makers to change their labels. The idea behind the change was to make it easier for consumers to understand just how much protection they’re getting. The best sunscreen is now labeled “broad spectrum” and should have an SPF of at least 30.
If you’re drinking, apply more sunscreen
Who doesn’t love a fruity cocktail during the summer? If you’re indulging in a beverage, you’ll need to apply additional sunscreen.
“If you’re drinking a significant amount of sugar or alcohol, you are causing inflammation in your skin and you will release more free radicals,” Skin Care Expert Risi-Leanne Baranja told Woman’s Day. “Then the sunlight suppresses your immune system. Therefore, it’s important to add more sunscreen in these situations to combat it.”

Don’t leave sunscreen in the car
If you’ve left your sunscreen in the car, the heat will likely make it less effective. Keep it in your purse of beach bag, that way it’ll always come with you. If you did leave the bottle behind, it’s best to toss it and buy a new bottle.
